Live & Then Give Organ Donation Program

Background

Every day an average of 17 people die waiting for organs that could save their lives. More than 98,000 people are on the national waiting list awaiting organ transplants. The list grows by about 500 every month.

People die needlessly each year due to the lack of donors. Transplantation is often the only hope for these people suffering from organ failure.

Live & Then Give is a cooperative initiative of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Medical Society Alliance.

The project is pursued with the support of:

Project Manual

The Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Alliance ask each County Medical Society and Alliance to participate in this Live & Then Give project.

The Project Manual contains the following five major sections, providing ideas implementing this program:

  1. Project
  2. The Necessity for Organ and Tissue Donation
  3. Campaign
  4. Educational Information
  5. Media Relation

The Project Manual and the Live & Then Give brochure are provided by your Pennsylvania Medical Society and Alliance at no cost to county societies and alliances.

A Pennsylvania physician liver recipient stated:

"Doctors are intimately familiar, and in my case, personally familiar with the impact organ donation can have on an individual's life. What for one family is a tragic end to life, can be a fulfilling new beginning for another."

Be an organ donor. Help us to enroll physicians and physicians' families, friends and patients as organ donors.
