Some to See Increases, Others Decreases from IBC Reimbursement Changes

Independence Blue Cross (IBC) will change reimbursement rates effective July 1, 2010, and these changes could translate to increases for some physicians and decreases for others.

According to IBC, physicians participating with their commercial plans will see an aggregate increase of about 4.5 percent, while those participating with their Medicare Advantage plans will see an aggregate increase of around 1.5 percent.

However, reimbursement changes will vary depending on specialty and services provided, so some physicians could see overall increases while others could see overall decreases.

Changes include:

  • Adjustments to the professional services standard fee schedule. This is the first step in a multi-year transition to a fee schedule based on the resource based relative value scale (RBRVS).
  • A change in price for certain drugs, injectables, and vaccines. This fee schedule will continue to be updated quarterly.

For more information, call IBC at (888) 289-3039 or send a fax inquiry to (215) 761-0384.
