Physicians Encouraged to Start Using New Medicare Form Before Jan. 1

While physicians have until Jan. 1, 2012, to begin using a new Medicare Advanced Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage (ABN) form, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) encourages physicians to begin using the new form now. The form is to be used in situations where Medicare payment is expected to be denied.

The deadline was changed from November to January to accommodate those with pre-printed stockpiles of ABNs. All ABNs with a release date of 3/2008 that are issued on or after Jan. 1, 2012 will be considered invalid.

For more information, go to CMS’ website.
