Hershey Medical Student Receives AMA Leadership Award
Travis Meyer, a Pennsylvania Medical Society member and delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA), has received one of the AMA Foundation’s 2008 Leadership Awards.
Meyer is a second-year medical student at Penn State University in Hershey.
He is the chair of the AMA Medical Student Section Region 6 delegation, vice chair of the communications task force, and a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society’s Medical Student Section Governing Council. He also is the medical student representative on the One Health Initiative Task Force—a collaborative effort between veterinary medicine, human medicine, and public health for improved health for all.
The leadership award is given to those who demonstrate outstanding non-clinical leadership skills in advocacy, community service, and education. It provides medical students, residents/fellows, early career physicians, and established physicians with special training to develop their leadership skills.
The award was given to 56 individuals at the AMA Foundation’s annual Excellence in Medicine Awards ceremony March 31 in Washington, DC.
